MT Taxpayers face additional costs from Rainbow gathering 07/03/2013 - 08:31 PM Some Beaverhead County taxpayers may have to pay a special tax to make up for an emergency 2 mill levy. The levy was voted on and invoked by the Beaverhead County Commission on Monday to help fund growing costs related to the Rainbow gathering. Beaverhead County Disaster and Emergency Services Director Dave Marx said that the county has only $3,100 left in an emergency fund. Because of that, a levy may be put on some Beaverhead County residents in the fall. The value of 2 mills for Beaverhead County is $26,786. Once the county spends that amount and the $3,100 in emergency funds then state assistance should kick-in. The Governor and Beaverhead County had estimated a $125,089 financial impact related to the Rainbow gathering but now that cost is expected to be significantly higher. As of yesterday Barrett Hospital had an overall impact of $119,772 alone. Of that, $112,740.67 is non-reimbursable healthcare because of homeless people or no ability to pay.
