This is from Don JR, He emailed me to post it just now. My Father, my friend. When I was two I started hanging around my Dad (by his ankle) as he walked around the house, he didnt kick me off, he was happy to drag me around with him. So thats how I rode. His family, Operating cranes, and buying and selling cars, was what my pop loved. I remember him laying in the living room talking in his sleep saying you cant fall in love with em son, you got to roll em! I couldnt imagine having a dad more proud of me than he was. What a pleasure it was for me to have my Dad down here with me the last few years. He would stop by the shop almost daily in hopes that he could help in some way. He would drive every car in my inventory every week and make a list of which car needed my attention so I would have a better chance of making a car deal. I was also blessed with Papas life lessons. His advice was always right on the money. You are only as good as your word A thief is a liar and a liar is a thief was told to me many times. I know my Dad would of, without question or reservation, stop what he was doing and travel across the world to come help me if I was in trouble. He would walk to the coast and row a boat if thats what it took. I knew I could show up at his front door at 4 am and I would receive a happy welcome. Papa and Grammys door is always open. Unconditional love was what occupied his heart. I remember being worried sitting in the principals office in high school waiting for my Dad to show up, and when he got there he gave the principal hell and told him you talk of both sides of your mouth, Im taking him fishing! because the principal did talk on both sides of his mouth. Papa told it like it was, good bad or indifferent. Just last week in the hospital, when the lady from the kitchen showed up with his dinner plate, I was not surprised when he asked her When are you going to get a cook? I spoke to my dad every day. I am sure he is here watching over us. Before he left I promised him I would take care of his Little Rosebud, my Mom, and that I will do. They dont build em like him any more. I will miss him immensely, my Father, my friend.
