This is from a good friend of mine who sent out group email (BCCd us all). He is spot on when he says how many of us reply, I was just doin my job. Its how I view what I did. I remember the first time someone thanked me for my service; it was at the Colorado Springs airport around 20 Sep 11. We were sending off our fourth group of guys to the Middle East and this gentleman came up to me, stuck out his hand, had tears in his eyes and said, Thank you for your service. I had no idea what to say; NEVER had someone thanked me for my service, I was usually looked at like a third class citizen and treated like crap. When I joined back in 1981, the view of us at that time was that we couldnt get a real job or were too stupid to get accepted to college. No, sorry, I wanted to be in the Air Force since the sixth grade and college bored the crap out of me. Since that day at the airport and because of people like my buddy who wrote this email, I am so glad the public opinion has changed so that current military people never have to feel the way many of us before them have felt. Greetings Veterans and family members and friends of Veterans, I just wanted to thank you for your service to our great nation, and for defending the freedom my family and I enjoy every day. I know you are all too humble to think of yourselves as heroes, and some of you have said you Had fun, or were Just doing my job, or otherwise give credit to others when I have thanked you in person....but I want you to know you are all heroes to me. Whether you believe you did (or do) a little or a lot to keep our nation free and safe, I thank God for people like you. We sleep safely in our comfortable beds because people like you ...stand ready when the wolf growls at the door, as Toby Keith says so well. Please pass this on to other veterans and active duty personnel, and let them know there are more grateful citizens who thank them for their sacrifice and service than they could possibly know. And, perhaps we could all take a quiet moment today to remember those Veterans, and their families, who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. youtube/watch?v=7nJTqpKlZ9U God Bless America, and God Bless our Veterans. Thank you!
