This is from my sister, Sue. Any help you feel called to give would be tremendous! djb For those of you that may not know, I am part of a VIM (Volunteer In Missions) Team going to Liberia next January. A very costly trip, financially, though spiritually priceless. The goal of the mission is to dig wells for fresh water, build latrines and birthing huts, as well as educate local midwives. Currently, these people rely on a river which is used for drinking, bathing and toilet. needless to say, this is a main contributing factor in their poor health. This mission started with the first group in January of this year. My friend Michelle and I will be part of the second group. The monetary goal for this project is $80,000 which will provide a well for fresh water, a latrine and birthing hut in each of 18 villages surrounding the focal point named John Dean Town. So far, we (the greater team) have raised about $30,000, and two villages have their wells, etc. Each village is responsible to dig and haul the sand and gravel necessary for making concrete (imagine doing this by hand, and carrying the loads on top of your head!); the program provides well pumps, cement, forms for the well liners and Liberian diggers and builders who have necessary experience. We (our VIM) will also provide birthing kits and mosquito nets. Michelle and I have a large fundraiser (as well as other smaller ones LOL) scheduled for May 17, 2014, aptly called What the Chuck Goes Tribal in honor of Chuck. This grandiose fundraiser was something Michelle began when Chuck was first diagnosed, and it was his dream to continue each year for a worthy cause. Unfortunately, with all that transpired last year, we were not of a mind set to do so. Now we have a new focus and mission! With that, I would ask any that can, prayerfully consider a donation to this project. ~Sue
