This is interesting -- Rolling Stones take on the 100 best country songs of all time. The Top 10 is pretty sound (although He Stopped Loving Her Today is only No. 4 while most lists have it as No. 1, and Stand By Your Man should probably be No. 2). Some clunkers made the list (see Goodbye Earl) but some largely unheralded gems also made it (Ray Charles incredible version of You Dont Know Me). I only spotted a handful of songs from the past decade that made it (and two of them are pretty good selections -- Springsteen from Eric Church and Follow Your Arrow from Kacey Musgraves, although I dont know if its top 100 material...). The biggest miss? No Kristofferson-penned tunes (Help Me Make It Through the Night, For the Good Times, Sunday Morning Coming Down). The biggest thing they got right? Other than the aforementioned Eric Chruch, theres nothing on here by the current crop of sound-alike male artists or sound-alike vocal groups. If you dont want to click through all 100 pages heres a hint -- the playlist on the right scrolls.
