This is it, the week that the Kittery Art Association goes on the road to South Berwicks lovely and historic Hamilton House. Starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, the Plein Air painters will have a million choices to make because the old house -- first built by a ship captain who had this most incredible bay on the Salmon Falls River to himself -- is spectacular! And, theres more than just the building. Theres nearby Vaughan Woods. Theres a barn on the north side of the parking lot. There are floral gardens galore . . . and gorgeous views of the river. Getting there is easy. Head up the 236, and just beyond the intersection of the 91, look for the Vaughan Woods sign. Take that left and run to the stop sign, and go basically straight ahead on a narrow road that goes from broken pavement to nearly bare earth. The parking lot is at the very end on the left, and the Hamilton House is in the distance to the right on the river bank. Be sure to bring something with wheels, because its a long haul from the parking lot, unless youre going to paint the barn. But, really, the extra effort will pay dividends.
