This is just your friendly neighborhood reminder that when the polls close, the first numbers that will be reported will be from the more urbanized, metropolitan areas of the state. They will almost certainly show a Michaud lead. In 2010, Paul LePage was trailing for much of the night, and as more votes came in from the rural areas of the state, he began to trade the lead with Cutler for some time, before finally pulling ahead by several thousand votes. Mike Michaud may take an early lead and never lose it. He may also take an early lead and lose it late in the night. Point being, you will almost certainly see him with a lead out of the gate. Pay less attention to that, and more attention to the raw vote totals of Michaud and LePage in these early towns, compared to what we saw in 2010. They will tell you more.
