(This is long, but worth it. Im convinced this is a WORD for somebody!) I am straight up overwhelmed by Gods love. This is a little mama in Mozambique. She lives in a mud hut, with just a handful of rags & shredded, worn out mats. Until one day some laid-down lovers of Christ came along and just poured love into her & bought her a new bed (which is like a hammock compared to western standards), food & supplies - the joy on this mamas face & in her being was unspeakable! In a moment her life was changed by love! She was so thankful that someone would pour out love on little old her. And thats the beauty of the gospel and stopping for the one. This isnt about some poor lady going from rags to riches - its about stopping for the one in front of you and seeing them how God sees them. Its about carrying your brothers burdens and saying if youre in need, Im in need. Because we are ONE. This is just one example of what love looks like in a little old village in Pemba, Mozambique. What does Love look like on streets of Chicago, the rich valleys of California, the small town where everyone knows everyones name in Norway, the suburbs of Columbia, SC, the religious sects of England? Might look like hugging somebody, giving them your last bit of change, responding with love when someone entices you to respond in anger, making amends with someone you had a falling out with, doing something for someone they dont deserve, or simply buying someone a bed. Were so comfortable in our little routines and lost in the busyness of your lives that we become blind to the suffering of the people around us. It doesnt always look like abject poverty, in the 1st world it looks a lot like loneliness & depression. But its time we get uncomfortable & reach out to those who have gone invisible for far too long. Because our Father sees them! And Hes just waiting on His body to be moved to compassion and to love in action! Give your life away!! (as Jesus so beautifully modeled for us with His LIFE & brought to completion with His dying last breath on the cross: It is FINISHED.) There is no greater love than to lay down ones life for ones friends. John 15:13 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18
