This is no ordinary book. There are great books on the Kingdom of God and remarkable books on creativity but this one blends the two great subjects into one as if they belong together (and they do!). My brief exposure to the life and work of Matt Tommey quickly convinced me that he was a study in creativity. Anyone who can take kudzu, the junk yard dog of growing organisms, and work it into a masterpiece is creativity in motion. If the reader does not know what kudzu is, please take my advice and do some research. This kudzu illustration is apt and fitting of the overarching work of God in His Kingdom. I was captured rather suddenly as I opened the electronic manuscript. Though the book commences with kudzu, the reader finds a sudden opening into the Kingdom of God. Creativity issues from the Kingdom, God’s eternal rule. Though mankind has lost its way, there remains in the most desecrated life vestiges of creativity. We know God as Light, Power, Purpose, Father and Creator. When the day is done it will be clearly obvious that all creativity issues from the Kingdom. This work you hold in our hands brings these two, Kingdom and Creativity, into union. One guarantees and expands the other. There is no Kingdom without creativity and no relevant creativity without Kingdom. Creativity is the ability to bring into reality and speaks of origin and purpose. Its opposite is chaos, the dark thread that is visible in a world that has largely neglected its Creator. What this world needs is a large dose of creativity, sparking a return to its original purpose. Matt Tommey has touched this sensitive area with what could be the shot heard round the world, calling us to reality and revival. From beginning to the end this work is a call to return to our roots and accept Kingdom creativity as well as a clarification of the real meaning of genuine creativity. Every chapter is alive with light and life. As Matt has reminded us early in this treatise, “You and I are living in the greatest hour of human history.” He is right and we are flanked with brilliant technologies and shocking advancements in every venue of science while sinking into chaos at every level of human existence. The kind of thinking exhibited in this book is a call to behold the heart of all creativity, namely the reason for our existence to be found only in God, our Creator in Whom is resident all wisdom and knowledge, i.e., creativity. Surely the coming revival will be fired and fueled by such a change in our thinking as we heed the call to “Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand (Matthew 3:2).” Thanks, Matt for this massive wake up call!
