This is one of those listen to whats being said, and not where its coming from kind of things... I have noticed a lot of artists when photographing work make a simple mistake. They will shoot the work with an object in the picture that has no real relevance to the work. Or on an awkward angle. What happens is it becomes a distraction. Its kind of looking at a guy with a beautiful suit on with a three hundred dollar tie that has a mustard stain on it. What you end up seeing is the stain... You have about max about a six second window to engage someones interest in what your showing them. Thats a fact!!!! You have spent time, money, your soul creating something... Show it in the way it needs to be seen. In an ideal world the impression is to engage someone to take a closer look. To get them in front of the physical work. That is if you plan on exhibiting work... Engage them, seduce them, and allow the work to be effective and haunt their imagination... If I were shooting an artists work I would use a good 35mm camera. The images can be used in a portfolio, for marketing purposes, for a poster, or to upload to a web site or even to toss them onto social media... The reason I said this is a listen to whats being said and not wheres its coming from is because these days I shoot images with a camera phone. But make no mistake about it if I were sending work images to a gallery or museum I would want the work to shine. So I would do what needed to be done to get its best representation.... And if for nothing else just shoot the work away from the half eaten cheese sandwich... It deserves that respect...
