[This is part of my friend Girmas comment on another thread] >>> There is a plethora of historical sources confirming the #Anoolee incident. First Oromo being an oral literature society up until recently, the stories of #Harma_muraa and #Harka_muraa, meaning breast and arm amputations, respectively, are household knowledge among the people as retained through oral literature. This has however been documented only over the last 40 years by historians who wrote on Arsi Oromo resistance of Miniliks conquest beginning early 1880s. Many such written historical events on the event, the latest is a full book dedicated to this specific incident by Dr Abbas H. Gnamo titled The Conquest and Resistance in the Ethiopian Empire: The Case of Arsi Oromo. Its really sickening to hear some people saying that the Anoolee incident and the construction of the statue for it is based on fiction stories by a man called Tesfaye Gebreab; while in fact the reverse is surely the case, i.e., the essayist might have taken his stories from what has happened in the real world as narrated by the descendants of the victims... The act was horrific by all measures and hence we all should condemn it as such. It was done by armed men on un-armed civilians. I dont believe the statue was constructed to make the burden of responsibility born by anyone today, even the kins of King Minilik or his sympathizers like people in the Blue Party. I do believe constructing the statue was reasonably okay as there are many people out there who flatly reject and deny and even bash, this happening. We cant be sure if these guys hesitate to re-deem Miniliks bad deeds. I am supporting the construction with this sentiment.
