This is probably the first political post Ive ever made on here. I - TopicsExpress

This is probably the first political post Ive ever made on here. I dont consider myself very into politics, but as an educated American I feel responsible to be somewhat in the know. I just read this article and have seen/read no other coverage on the story. With that being said, Ill briefly state my thoughts. From an economics standpoint if we do not open our borders we will not have enough workers to support our economy. Current U.S. birth rates, combined with the state of education in this country leaves us at a point where we will very soon either (a) not have enough qualified workers for necessary tech jobs that will be outsourced or (b) not have enough people period and/or willing people to work entry-level jobs. Birthrates are slipping internationally and very few countries currently have a surplus of qualified and able workers. Two countries with big surpluses currently, but that wont have a surplus in 15-20 years, are Mexico and India. If we dont let these people in and encourage them to come to the US in the next two decades and/or start having more qualified kids in the US with current citizens, then our economy will feel a dramatic negative impact. Bottom line this is viewed as a social issue in politics, which it is to an extent, but more significantly this is an economic issue. We desperately need to actively recruit immigrants. This was a very important action and the right one for the future of this country. Second point, the manner in which this action was taken is very disappointing to me. I could honestly care less that Obama was the one to do it. It may anger some that he took the authority he has into his own hands to do it. I dont really care. What I do care about is the fact that he had to do it. When our government gets to the point that we stall each other from both sides on every issue and cant accomplish anything, weve all failed. Like anything, but especially in the US, our government is a relationship between people. Today it is strictly a relationship between two parties. Republicans and Democrats are now like an old, resentful married couple of 30 years. They know each other so well. They can anticipate each others every move and from my POV it appears they just choose actions for the sole benefit of making each other miserable. What kind of way is that to run a country? What kind of way is that to live? To work as a politician? There has to be some love still in this political marriage. A common love for making our country better? A shared interest in writing pieces of legislation? The revolutionary wedding must have been fun? Who doesnt love crab cakes? Bottom line - I have no idea why I felt compelled to write this. Its out of character for sure, but if you are still reading, you should know the benefits of this action taken are in fact good. However the manner in which this was done points to a bad future. I know this isnt the first time executive action has happened but the context around this one is not good. We need to find some middle ground, a little give and take desperately. A further split would be heartbreaking to see. I hope our politicians can start to see the bigger picture and work this out for the kids (us, all Americans). Or whatever. Dont fix it. Packers are winning these days. Im happy. Go pack go!
