This is probably the hardest thing for our culture to grasp, - TopicsExpress

This is probably the hardest thing for our culture to grasp, because it is purely by faith and maturity that it is accomplished. No conformity to man, no competition or comparison. No control and delegation from a have to-must mindset. Just fruit of the Spirit at the Lords Dinner Table: Christ is present in our gatherings by the Holy Spirit to direct things, if we look to Him (Matt. 18:20). We are not a leaderless mob. Perhaps one reason why authoritarian behavior keeps reappearing in church history is that we keep losing the conviction that Christ is present to lead and guide, so we rely on personalities and organization instead. Do we really believe that Christ is present in the church as the Head of the church by the Holy Spirit working in each member? Do we really believe He has made a unified body out of the congregation, which will function harmoniously, if we pursue Him together? The very fact that we can ask such a question— won’t it be chaos?— shows that we do not have much faith in the reality of the Holy Spirit implementing the Headship of Christ in our meetings. --Bruce Davidson, You Are All Brothers and Sisters: Growing in Our Understanding of Authority, 58 to 0: How Christ Leads Through The One Anothers.
