This is shameful; I usually see this during the weddings that the couple and photographers forget that they are sitting in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib . Newly weds take photographs thinking that there is no tomorrow, turning their back to Guru Granth Sahib, heads uncovered and so on and so forth. Sometime you just let it be because this is their day or you want to give them the benefit of doubt that they might not know the things they should be careful about. This picture that was taken by non-sikh girl sitting with her back turned towards Guru Granth Sahib In Glen Cove NY is very offensive, She might not know the protocol to follow but BIG SHAME on the Gurudwara Committee those who let this stupidity happen. They are solely responsible for this kind of behavior and failed to educate the couple about the DO and DON’T of getting married in the Gurdwara. So its my request to the Parents, Couples, photographers and Gurudwara representatives, its our duty to educate people about the presence of Guru Granth during the ceremony. We do the Sikh wedding to get the blessing from the Guru not take pictures in pretty place. This is not acceptable at all and moreover insulting to Sikh Sangat. If someone wants to get married in the presence and would like to get the blessing of Guru they must show respect to the Guru. To be straight to the point: There is no such thing as a marriage with Guru Ram Das Ji’s Lavaan Bani between a non Sikh couple according to the Sikh Rehat Maryada.
