This is the Community Primary School in Koluama II, Bayelsa State. 31 months ago in January 2012, there was a gas explosion from a Chevron rig that devastated the community. President Jonathan visited, the oil minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, also a Bayelsan visited the community and promised that help will come. Up till this moment, nothing has been done for the people of Koluama II and they are forced to drink contaminated water and live a life that is best experienced than described. What baffles me with Bayelsa is that this state is supposed to be another Qatar, Kuwait or Dubai, it is supposed to be one of the wealthiest places in the world where people are supposed to be having some of the highest standards of living but the opposite is the case as the state is thoroughly ravaged by poverty. But this is not supposed to be. Why? Bayelsa is a young state, it collects the second largest allocation in the country (2nd only to Rivers State) and it has the smallest population in the country, with just a little over one million people. So where is all the billions of dollars going to? The state has been blessed with wonderful and visionary leaders like the state governors namely: Phillip Ayeni, Habu Daura, Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, Paul Obi (these ones were military), then followed by Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Timipre Sylva, Werinipre Seibarugo, Timipre Sylva, Nestor Binabo and Henry Dickson. O Bayelsans, if you like give yourself brain and choose good leaders, if you like, keep sticking to tribalism and ethnicity, na you go suffer am. You people cried that you wanted an Ijaw State and Abacha gave you one. Now, if Abacha wakes up and sees how you have messed up the state, he will just collapse and die again. By the way, one wonders what the governors of the Niger Delta do with all the billions of dollars they get. Only one person is working and that is Udu of Delta State, in fact, he just commissioned a swimming pool in Warri some days ago. Warri people no dey carry last they say, be deceiving yourself dia.
