The thing I love about Sherlock, and its been something Ive noted about the shows and films that I love: characters that intuitively know each other or the situation. A lot of that is a Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie thing too. Part of Hitchcock and Christies genius was developing a plot or a character within that plot where there little hidden easter eggs/foreshadowing devices. You only notice them upon a re-watch (which is why re-watch A LOT). In Sherlock, besides the detective work being a constant stream of recall by the main character (elongated and flashy in effect), the camera work focuses on every characters reactions within the frame. While someone is speaking, the lens constantly moves across the secondaries in the shot revealing ticks, gesticulations, sighs, worn out tea cups, cracks in the ceiling, a book out of place....minutiae that subtly posits elements of intuition in the viewers mind. Hitchcock and Christie do this continually in their expansive bodies of work and its why their techniques work so well. When the moment of plot denouement occurs, theres a collective feeling of relief, even when theres a twist. The twist may be shocking, but the overall feeling that washes over you is....familiarity. In fact, we all do it every day. Its why sometimes we get deja vu, believe in the supernatural....we all intuitively know things because of these little clues. Our brains are constantly on Sherlock mode. I love stories so SO SO very much. Intuition. Listen to it.
