This is the Specimen Signature of Matias Maffiotte , my great 3x grandfather, 3 months before he died on Sept 7, 1889, accordingly, he died from injuries caused by gun powder explosion in Manila,Philippines at the time that Katipunan organization of Bonifacio was just gaining steam among Filipino sympathizers, but whether this explosion was accidental or incidental, records are silent...He possessed dual nationalities and / or citizenship, Spanish and french. Spanish because he was residing in the Philippines a spanish colony, and as French, by the principle of Jus Sanguinis, because his ancestry was French. His father Michel Milliere Maffiotte was a French Naval sailor in the ship Indomitable, a veteran, an awardee of Sta Helene, an award given to Imperial servicemen or soldiers who served under the aegis of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He was also a Spanish - french news paper correspondent and a member of the Editorial staff of Diario de Manila, a newspaper which was notorious among Spanish authorities as PRO Filipino revoluntionaries. He married a Filipino Spanish mestiza by the name of Luciana Perez de Tagle. (the Perez de Tagle families are known to have come from Cavite Province as there are still existing families from Cavite whose surname is Perez de Tagle. They had 3 daughters. and One of them was my great great grandmother whose name accordingly was Marissa Maffiotte, who died giving birth to Manuela Maffiotte. She was raised by Priscila Bruce in Jaro,Iloilo, a grandmother from the Filipino family side of Manuela. Later, after the Spanish American war, the family migrated to Manila, and resided in MF jhocson street corner Gastambide. Life was a struggle for the widower Priscila, since the time was callled the depression period of the US economy. Altough Philippines was thousands of miles away from the American shores, yet, the pledgling Philippines was also affected. Priscila supported her 3 grandchildren by teaching piano lessons to school children in the Sampaloc district. Manuela grew up as a young beautiful lady. She enrolled in Gregg typing School near the front of San Sebastian street, the building was nearby the La Peral Bldg. The building was demolished in 2012 and the lot was bought by the owners of UE.
