This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. -Psalm 118:24 Fulfilling lofty New Year’s resolutions begins when we must say, “This is the day…” We promise ourselves a day will come when we will lop off destructive habits, renew minds, transform behaviors, start a healthy diet, begin an exercise program, deal with our stresses, be kind to our kids, romance our spouse, and quit kicking the dog. And, oh yes, on that day, we will launch into spiritual renewal, developing intimate personal communion and conversation with God and spending time in His word. But then we procrastinate. Waistlines bulge, blood pressures spurt up, family quality shrinks and spiritual vitality sags. The dreams and hopes at the start of a new year are pots of gold at rainbow-ends at which we never arrive. But the way to renewal begins when we declare, “This is the day…” God has created this as a day of beginning. Seize it, and walk in it toward Total Heart Health. SPIRITUAL HEART FOCUS Set as your goal that of spending quality personal time with God each day this year. Tomorrow, we suggest a method for developing a new spiritual lifestyle. PHYSICAL HEART FOCUS Commit yourself to building a new dietary and physical fitness behavior this year that will be heart-healthy. Tomorrow we will talk about how you accomplish the goal.
