This is the first in a series of animated shorts I made a couple months ago about #WakeUpNow, a #pyramidscheme that promises its members financial rewards in exchange for recruiting new members. Dont be fooled by the flashy marketing and boastful sales pitches -- Wake Up Now is a #scam. Heres the basic facts: - It costs $100 per month to participate. - It sells nothing of value and offers nothing that cant be obtained elsewhere for less (or for free). - Only 4% of all of its participants ever get paid a penny. - The 4% who _do_ get paid receive less per year ($7,000) than a part-time Walmart worker. - The scheme forbids all of its members from ever revealing exactly how much theyre paid. It also forbids them from showing any tangible proof that theyve ever been paid at all (deposit slips, bank statements, check stubs, etc.). - Because of this, despite all the boastful claims of wealth and success and all the videos showing fancy cars and ATM withdrawals, _not one WUN member has ever proven their income_. - The company permitted and encouraged its members to boast about an endorsement from the #FTC that they all knew was a forgery for more than a year before finally admitting it was a fraud. - The companys executives are _terrified_ of an impending investigation being launched by the FTC. - The company running the scam owes over $15 million in debts and lost $4.5 million in 2013 alone. In the same year, its revenue was only $11 million. - The company is publicly traded ... as a penny stock. - Its supporters and salesmen actively discourage people from going to college or looking for work. They also actively encourage prospective members to drop out of school or quit their jobs to focus on this scam full time. - Its supporters viciously attack critics, hurling insults, trying desperately to silence them and attempting to forcibly remove their comments and videos by falsely flagging them as spam or a scam.
