This is the first rant I have ever posted on facebook. Jennifer Mireles was driving to go drinking in her car in Lufkin. This 22 year old single mother had no drivers license and no insurance. She hit a bicyclist who flew up on her windshield and was killed. She did not stop, instead she hid her car in a garage because she was on probation. Yesterday the jury only gave her 10 years of probation. What should have been done was to send her to jail for a long time. At the least they should have taken her car, and told her she has to ride a bicycle at least five miles a day for ten years. Then she would know how vulnerable a cyclist is to distracted drivers. This would also give her time to reflect on how her irresponsibility has had such devastating consequences. My prayers are with the family of the victim and his fiancé.
