its interesting how we live in an age in which values which have been around since the beginning of human existence have become eclipsed by the ideology of a single generation in a western society: where all of a sudden, punishment of a child for his/her actions is seen as a half-assed-last-resort expression of your anger and frustration as a parent. to be honest i think these are thoughts of simple minded follow-fashions who attempt to adopt american culture as their own. These same individuals would however forget that we live in a world in which eastern cultures have a penalty of theft as chopping off ones hand. a punishment is supposed to fit a crime and while i admit that some punishments can be too extreme i personally think that a cutass is more effective than a stern talking to or a time out..
