This is the latest campaign organized by KEA to prompt state legislators to invest in public education. Whether you are a teacher or parent, this impacts YOU! Never mind the fact that most teachers havent had a raise in years; our children are suffering from lack of funding in many areas. Textbook funding has been eliminated over the past few years. Unfortunately, textbooks cant last forever, especially in the hands of young learners. Other programs, including ESS and preschool funding, have taken major hits. As teachers retire or are pink-slipped, many vacancies go unfilled. The list goes on and on. KY says education is a priority. Weve heard the talk, so now lets see the walk. KY has made major efforts to lead the nation in education reform. Where is the money to fund those initiatives? Teachers have long made sacrifices out of their own pocketbooks to provide for children. However, teachers do NOT have the finances to compensate for the shortfall of funds. The basketball is in our legislators court. We must cheer them on to make the right move forward for education. Our children are our greatest resources. We cant afford to balance a budget at the expense of our children--our future!
