This is the main difference between a chemical trail and a contrail (water vapour). As you can see, a contrail dissipates very quickly and should never last for more than 30 seconds. There is no such thing as persistent contrails due to cold weather, high altitude etc, the one closer to the ground level is not a contrail but a chem trail, and will most likely last for the whole day if not a minimum of 4 hours.
