This is the message that I asked Jasper to post for me after I left the group yesterday: I just want to let everybody know that I have decided to leave the group, because I feel that my opinion is not appreciated/valued, because it’s different from most. I find that unfortunate. I totally accept that many people prefer to drive. On the other hand, I expect other people to respect my desire to get around on my own power for many of my trips. I also hoped to be able to expect that my belief in cycling as a game changer for communities would be respected, though perhaps not shared. I believe that everyone in our community deserves to be safe on our roads, no matter how a person wishes to get around – by car, by bike, on foot, or transit. Kids should be able to go to school by bike, families should be able to bike through the town core to go for ice cream, granny should be able to bike to a coffee shop to meet a friend. I do not believe that any of my posts were insulting to anybody, nor showed disrespect for other people’s opinions. I find it troubling that some people were threatening to remove my posts, which I believe were quite civil. I have been insulted in this group in the past, and no one ever threatened to remove the posts of the person doing this. That’s why I see no value for myself in continuing to take part in the conversation. Have a great day!
