This is the natural progression of all governance. Government never willingly cedes power, it only garners and expands itself. It is the enemy of any free thinker, free actor, and true humanitarian. This surveillance apparatus that has become publicly know that last month is a serious thing. All the most oppressive regimes in the 20th century had far reaching surveillance of their citizens. The Khmer Rouge, East German Stasi, the USSR, Nazi Germany, as well as MANY more, from the eastern block, to Pinochet in Chile and the North Koreans. There is no purpose behind the surveillance of the common citizenry but to find the means to oppress.
