This is the reality that I have grown up with - an understanding - TopicsExpress

This is the reality that I have grown up with - an understanding all of my life that the land where my father comes from, and the people that are my people have suffered this fate for as long as I have known, and will apparently continue to suffer it for a long time to come. When you found a country on the premise that the people who are already living there are not people, you begin the destruction of lives and civility and a cycle of degradation and dehumanization that spirals into a vortex of ever increasing distance from the basic values and tenets of decency and humanity. A Land without a People for a People without a Land. This was the statement that defined the decision to give Palestine to the exiled Jews of Europe. A gift from the very communities that had exiled and abandoned them. A gift that wasnt theirs to give. Not because the Jews didnt deserve sanctuary, but rather because the gift was someone elses land - a land with history and tradition and which had lived in unity as the heart of all of the Judeo-Christian Religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Together, in balance. This statement resonates deep within me as it is a declaration by the United Kingdom and the Allied Forces that my people, the Palestinians do not count as people, and unfortunately, that has been the driving force of policy in Israel and in the western support of Israel ever since.
