This is the response Mike Alessi got from his Michigan State Rep, - TopicsExpress

This is the response Mike Alessi got from his Michigan State Rep, Sarah Roberts, when he requested that she vote in favor of scientific wildlife management. Obviously Representative Roberts is unaware of the underhanded tactics HSUS has used to deliberately mislead Michigan voters. This is a great example of why we all need to contact our state reps and senators. I would also suggest that everyone who lives in Sarah Roberts district contact her and strongly suggest she re-think her position. Dear Mr. Alessi, Thank you for contacting me about the “Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. I appreciate the time you have taken to share your views with me on this issue. I also want to welcome you to the 18th House District. The Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act petitions were certified by the Board of State Canvassers on July 24th. The Secretary of State will now forward the petition to the legislature for their consideration. The legislature can enact the petition language or allow it to go to the voters for their consideration. If the House and Senate approve the proposal, it will in effect render two referendums seeking to block laws that allow for the hunting of wolves. As is the case with other laws, the Governor will not be allowed to approve or disapprove of this new law. I strongly support Michigan’s deep and rich heritage of hunting and fishing. However, I believe that this issue should be decided by the voters. As you know this is not the only petition drive that involves the hunting of wolves. There have been two successful petition drives that are opposed to the hunting of wolves. In the first instance, the legislature passed a new law which nullified a legitimate attempt to have this question placed on the ballot. I believe it was wrong to make an end run around the citizens’ constitutional right to petition to have a question placed before the voters to decide. I am not opposed to hunting and I will fight any attempt to take that right away from you. I am opposed to denying citizens the opportunity to vote on an issue that has been legitimately petitioned for. Thank you again for sharing your views with me. I welcome your thoughts and concerns and appreciate hearing from you. If you have any further concerns you would like to share with me, please feel free to contact me anytime by phone (855) SARAH18 or email [email protected]. Sincerely, Representative Sarah Roberts District 18
