This is the story of the fickle fate of fearless Fred. On Valentines Day, Fred was picked up as a stray by animal control. A Beagle mix estimated to be four years old, Fred was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Twice Fred had local adopter interest, but neither panned out. At last, a rescue agreed to take him. However, when Fred went to the vet, it was determined that he was not four, but more like eight. When the rescue was informed of this, they decided not to take Fred. On April 15th, Freds fate finally took a turn for the best. Caring for Creatures in Virginia was willing to take him if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADARs liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue and a volunteer with Caring for Creatures, asked for our help. We agreed, and Fred was safe at last! He received his heartworm treatment on May 7th. Susan shared this with us about Fred: A loving, affectionate fellow, Fred loves to buzz around to meet new dogs and people, and then chill and be super cute! Hes a perfect size for young kids, older folks and everyone in between. With his sweet, personable nature, hes ready for just about any home environment. All you do is add some love and hes going to fit in just fine!
