This is the time in Revelation of the mark of the beast. People who were NOT catholic could not buy or sell because they refused to be branded a number on their bodies given only to the Catholics so they can buy or sell using this branding as an identification. Without this branding, no one could buy at the marketplace because if the storekeepers sold any food without witnessing this branding, they could be also subjected to this kind of torture and called a friend of the heretics. Anyone could call you a heretic without proof just because and you would be tortured. This was the time of the inquisition. The church had to live in caves to survive and God would keep them. This also applies spiritually to the catholic church because of its history and the present discovery of the pedophile priest and the reason why shes going bankrupt because now people are no longer in attendance in their mass. But many people that follow her are not convinced because of their blindness and religiousness.
