From the old woman next door who polished the leaves on her plants and taught me gardening, to Mrs Marriott who taught me needlepoint and basketry and all about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, to the old Aborigine Gus who taught me how to ride horseback and bake bread in the ground, to Drury Pyper who taught me extreme laughter combined with the Australian art of the yarn or story telling, to dear Aunt Joyce who continues to teach me about the reward reaped from a life well lived, to very old Vera in Mexia who turned me on to Victorian jewelry and the genteel ways of the women of Texas, to Mrs. Wood who taught me how to handle money and be a business woman, to Mrs. Mauldin who taught me how to tell funny stories and how to be a country woman and how to make corn cakes, to Mrs. Freeman who taught me how to fry chicken and the simple life of Texas country folk, to Mrs Casey who taught me everything about health food, vitamins and healthy eating, and to Mr Casey who taught me how to play Medieval Music and appreciation, to old Willie who taught me about the African American culture of the Deep South and how to pick Cotton, to my dear Celia who taught me the great Gemini gift of gab and how to welcome a multitude of friends into my home, and to Marge who taught me to value antiques and gave me many pieces in my collection today, and of course to my own dear Mother, Rhodie who was just about old enough to be my grandmother, who taught me everything else from song, dance, art appreciation, ethnic music appreciation, how to cook anything from scratch without a recipe, how to love and how to be a romantic, and to my own dear Daddy, just about old enough to be my grandfather, who taught me how to get along so well with men, how to feel loved, and how to be constantly working toward some goal!
