This is twisted... The woman quit all substance abuse when she suspected she was pregnant and confirmed the pregnancy at the doctors office (and was apparently arrested from that evidence) Ok, Im all for stopping abuse, but this is insane, the stress they put on the mother, denying her the pre-natal care she was already seeking, not treating her underlying conditions (that could well affect the baby) this is INSANE. Until that umbilical cord is cut, mother and child are one organism, what affects the mother, affects the unborn child. Not only this, but what idiot pursues child abuse claims when the mother corrected her behavior the second she suspected she might be pregnant. If youre going to march down this road, at the very least, you need meet your own criteria - if the life of that unborn child is so important, why wasnt she being treated by specialists and every effort made while she was in custody to accommodate their health. That to me exposes the double standard and the lie that exists within laws like this. They are passed by people who say every life is sacred but execute the law in a manner that says they place no real value on the mother or the child... only some twisted sense of duty to punish someone who doesnt conform to their standards. Im not condoning drug usage while pregnant, not in any degree, but if a doctor says theres no harm done yet and you need to stop, and the person has already stopped and stayed clean, Id say youve already succeeded in getting the behavior you wanted and punitive actions are cruel and abusive at that point.
