This is what happened with my brother today in morning .....:( In the taxi, halfway to Ramallah, the old woman sitting next to me talks to the driver, “If you please.. i forgot my ID card at home, and i’m going to my prisoner son’s trial at Ofar and they wont let me in without it.. can you drop me off here so that i can go back.” The driver: “it will be too hard on you ya Hajjeh, call someone from your family to send it with another taxi to Ramallah.” Hajjeh: “I dont have a phone.. my phone wouldnt turn on this morning so i left it. and i dont remember my sons’ phone numbers.” After asking her where she’s from, the driver realized he knows another driver from her town. He called him to tell her family to send her ID card, while on the line he asked her, “Who should i tell him you are?” she said, “tell him the martyr’s mother, they all know me.” (turns she has another son who is a martyr). He hung up the phone after setting up, and no sooner had she uttered the words “God bless you”, she started crying. “i never forgot it before, but with the haste, and i was worried i wont get to see my son, although they never let me near him.. i glimpse him from afar. Every time i go for a visit they tell me he has no visitation rights, or punished, or that he’d been moved.. so i said that this time he cant go to court and not see me, even if for a second from afar,” as she spoke, her tears silently streamed down her face. Everyone in the car was silent, nobody knowing what to say except for “May God hasten his release”. Although i has heard the ones sitting behind me talking and laughing before, but when she started talking, everyone went silent, as if they remembered how much the people are humiliated and suffer. The driver’s phone rang again, her son reached him to tell her “Why did you go out today Yamma? The trial is tomorrow. I was sleeping when you left the house.” Hajjeh: “Yes!! it’s Thursday not Wednesday. it slipped my mind.. from when i woke up for Fajr prayer, i was praying for him so i thought it was today. i forgot.” she covered her face with her hands, wiped her tears silently, apologizing to everyone for disturbing us.. “Never mind, i will get to the taxi station and go back. it’s the haste and confusion.”
