This is what happens when I have to lock myself in at home to work on a beautiful autumn day :)! Windows are open, music is on, new episodes of Ann & the Angels are in the works... and there is a giant jack o lantern pumpkin baking in the oven! Im already dreaming of more soup, chile, pumpkin/grain dishes, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin smoothies, and... pumpkin facials! Yes, pumpkin is packed with nutrients that your skin loves - wrinkle busting vitamin C, E, A, beta-carotene, zinc, antioxidants, potassium... It tightens pores and leaves you glowing. And how easy is this? Scoop out the seeds from your pumpkin, take the remaining goopy stringy flesh that you usually toss in the trash and smear it all over your face, arms, hands. Let dry and let it sit there at least half an hour or more. Save the rest in the fridge for later. Your skin will thank you. And while youre at it, heat up some milk on the stovetop. Toss in cinnamon, allspice, a few cloves, and nutmeg. Simmer for 15 minutes and let cool. Then froth in the blender with some pureed pumpkin and pour over hot coffee (with or without sugar). Voila youre own homemade Pumpkin spiced latte :) (I use 2 cups any kind of milk, 3 whole cloves, 10-12 allspice berries, 2 sticks of cinnamon + 1 t ground cinnamon, and 1 t ground nutmeg. At the end I blend in 1/2 c pureed pumpkin. Makes 2 big cups of latte when you froth it all up and pour over coffee). (To cook a pumpkin just quarter them, scoop out the seeds, and bake at 450 degrees F for an hour. Use a tray with edges or itll leak all over your oven!)
