This is why I am passionate about raising money for Walk & Roll for Methodist Rehab Center. Please help us if you can. Karens Story Six years ago on St. Paddy’s day; my life took a drastic turn. During my daughter’s spring break cruise to Mexico, I helped chaperone an excursion to some caves and caverns. The kids were jumping in this beautiful, big hole in the earth and when I jumped into the water, I shattered my spine. I was instantly paralyzed. The trek back from that cavern has been a long, hard battle that has forever changed my life—but not my spirit, drive or determination. Methodist Rehab taught me the skills to rebuild my life and return home to my loved ones. Now, I’m trying to give back as a nurse for the hospital’s research department. My goal is to let the newly injured know there is hope and happiness. I can honestly say I’m a better person on four wheels than I ever was on two feet. Keiths Story January 15, 2012 was a beautiful cool morning. I was in Georgia riding my Goldwing trike motorcycle to Orlando when a car crossed 4 lanes of traffic and crashed into me. I suffered a crushed femur, a C2 & T6 fracture. After 8 days in a tramua hospital in Dothan, AL, I came to Methodist Rehab to begin my recovery. I was very fortunate. It took 6 months, but I was able to walk again. I am extremely grateful to all those who aided in my recovery and especially my friend from the 1st grade, Karen Honea Skeen. She inspired me to count my blessings and not my burdens. MRC has many other great people who are doing a fantastic job of helping others who have had traumatic injuries.
