This is why we do what we do! I’d like to introduce everyone to Iron Bred MC’s latest recipient of the Juvenile Kidney Foundation award. His name is Brandon Holloman, a December 2012 Kidney Transplant recipient. Brandon became aware of his condition as a freshman in high school at the age of 14. He was like most 14 year olds hanging out and running around with his friends when he noticed his body would cramp up all over. Suddenly he found that he couldn’t run anymore. He was short of breath, and his vision would become blurry for extended periods of time. During a routine physical, the doctor informed his mom that they found large amounts of protein in his urine. Brandon also had extremely high blood pressure. A few weeks later, Brandon’s whole life changed. He was at school when the teacher informed him his parents were there to pick him up early. His joy became pain as he soon found out the reason behind the early dismissal. After enjoying what would be his last pizza in 2 years, his parents told him he’d to spend the weekend at the hospital for testing. During that stay, Brandon’s doctor informed the family that he was in the middle of end stage renal failure and would require emergency dialysis to survive. He was given medicine which caused an adverse reaction immediately and he had to be rushed to the ICU. The surgeons had to place a permanent catheter in Brandon’s neck for his ongoing hemo-dialysis. Brandon has since been through multiple surgeries, including moving the catheter to his stomach, to only have to move it back to his neck again. The neck surgeries were the worst for him. But with God’s covering, and the prayers of family members, he got through it. Brandon had hemo-dialysis three times a week from August 2012 to December 2012 until the donor testing was completed. It was then when the doctors found that his father was a perfect match. December of this year will mark the 2nd anniversary of his surgery, and praise God, there hasnt been any major problems. Brandon is in his senior year in high school, and plans on attending either Georgia State or Georgia Southern Universities and studying political science. He has hopes of one day becoming governor of the state of Georgia and/or a United States Senator. Who knows, maybe even President! Iron Bred has been blessed by each of the kids that we’ve grown to love as one of our own. You all have helped to enrich their lives. Come out Sunday October the 26th to the Iron Bred Football Tournament and sow a seed into the life of this blessed young man. I promise you it will bless you even more than it blesses him!
