This is why we formed Raising Raiders...what a nice email from a 2014 Raising Raiders Grant Recipient! I never expected to be selected for the Raising Raiders grant that was offered to MARSOC Spouses. As I was completing the application process, I partially felt as though I may be wasting my time. Having been constantly not qualified or eligible for other means of financial aid set me on a sour path of thinking I wasnt good enough. The hopes of going back to school to complete my education was starting to look expensive as an out of pocket cost and I was sure that this grant would find some reason to disqualify me as well but I gave it a shot. When I got the phone call saying I was selected, I was more than honored, shocked, surprised, and humbled that an organization finally believed enough in me to assist with tuition costs and fees during one of my heaviest class-intensive semesters, needless to say stressful. More than anything, I am so proud of my husband working for such an integral part of the Marine Corps where this opportunity can be given, where families matter. Now coming towards the end of my community college years, I have been accepted into a Nursing Program where I will advance my studies and continue going after my dreams. Our family couldnt be any more thankful for this grant helping ease the painful financial struggles that come with.
