This is your last week to visit “The Way We Worked - Athens,” so we hope youll join us before the Smithsonian exhibit is packed up and sent to the next city. The Way We Worked - Athens has brought more than 2,600 visitors so far to learn about the history of work in America and in Limestone County. Events planned before Saturday, Nov. 8, the final day that the exhibit is open in the Limestone County Event Center, will include school group tours, a special exhibit at the Limestone County Archives and the final installment of the Brown Bag Lunch Speaker Series. Admission is free to the exhibit and all events. Brown Bag Lunch Speaker Series The lunchtime speaker series will conclude at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with “The Way Alabama Worked” by Dr. John F. Kvach, lead scholar for “The Way We Worked” in Alabama and professor of public history at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Bring your own lunch to the exhibit theater and enjoy as Kvach will explores how Alabamians have worked over time and place in conjunction with the Smithsonians The Way We Worked exhibit. He will discuss our states history from yeoman farmers and slaves to telecommuters of the 21st century. “How Have You Made Your Mark? A Study Of Hands” Friday is the final day to view a special art exhibit at the Limestone County Archives related to “The Way We Worked.” “How Have You Made Your Mark? A Study Of Hands” by Morgan County artist Lee Nabors, on display at the Limestone County Archives consists of approximately 50 oil paintings of the hands of North Alabama individuals demonstrating the way they work. Visitors are invited to view the paintings during regular hours at the Limestone County Archives, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Archives is located at 102 W. Washington Street in the former L&N Passenger Depot. For more information, visit leenabors.
