This isnt a BCT o OSUT story, or even that of a POG going through AIT. This is the story of how The Army Rangers got their motto RANGERS LEAD THE WAY. Brigadier General Norman D. Cota arrived with the second wave of attack at Omaha Beach on D-Day and came under intense enemy fire right from the jump. Upon seeing that a many Allied troops were shell-shocked and unable to advance, he took it upon himself to motivate them ... by walking up and down the battlefield and getting everyone squared away like only a General can. He marched over to a meeting with a nearby commander and inquired which outfit they were. They were the 5th Rangers, they said, to which Gen. Cota barked: Well, goddamn it then, Rangers, lead the way! Omaha Beach
