This isnt gardening or but it is a recipe of sorts... :-) We all know how inflation is effecting our budgets. I found this on a blog and decided to save the recipe. I researched the ingredients where we have septic and was concerned it might not be septic safe. I found out that it is not only septic safe (via several agricultural pages on a number of colleges) but that it is actually safer for septic than store bought. I made a double batch when I ran out of store bought dishwasher detergent. I AM NOT GOING BACK! My dishes are coming out of the dishwasher significantly cleaners. The cost is a fraction of what store bought dishwasher detergent is. We also have hard water and I always had a slight film on my dishes when using store bought. Not any more. So I thought Id share the recipe. DISHWASHER DETERGENT 2 Cups of Borax 2 Cups of Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer makes this, you’ll find it in the same isle as laundry detergent) 4 packages of Sugar Free Kool-Aid Lemonade powder mix (I bought a 16 oz container of Country Time Lemonade powder and used an 1/4 of Cup measurement for a DOUBLE recipe in place of the Kool-Aid packets) Container to store it in (I bought a 2 ½ quart plastic bucket with cover at Lowes in the paint department, a double batch of this recipe make 2 quarts and the bucket is wide enough to scoop out detergent) Mix all ingredients and store in covered container (this literally takes 5 minutes to put together)
