This isnt gun related, but I need to vent. Ill try my best to keep this simple, though its anything but. I met most of my good friends through 4chans weapon board, /k/. We connected to each others Facebook pages and the rest is history. Weve been together for years, and I have met several of them in person to hang out from time to time. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, the gun grabbers went into full force with their tyrannical proposals for gun control legislation and we went into action. A lot of us showed up for the January 19, 2013 Gun Appreciation Day rallies at our state capitols to protest for our gun rights and specifically, to protest Feinsteins proposed gun control bill. Through thick and thin, my komrades were like family to me. We would joke with each other ALL day, every day and help each other whenever one of us needed help. I had always told them that if they ever needed the clothes off my back, the money in my wallet or a place to stay that Id be there for them. Well recently Ive had to make good on my promises, and BOY has it been a rollercoaster ride. Meet my long time internet friend, Kolt Tolleson. Kolt is like me, motivated to better and defend his country and a staunch defender of our 2nd amendment rights. Our lives have many similarities and in many ways, I see myself in him. Kolt grew up in an abusive household and long story short, his trailer trash mother kicked him out when he turned 18. Broke, alone, and homeless, Kolt roamed the streets in Texarkana until his cousins came to pick him up to take him to their home in Oklahoma. However it turned out they were extorting him for money and dumping him into a spiral of ever increasing debt for things he didnt consent to. We had to get him out of there, and fast. In the middle of the night, my friend Bob drove from San Antonio, Texas to Durant, Oklahoma to rescue Kolt. Bob had an apartment lined up in a week or so and had offered to take Kolt in, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give this kid a fresh start. Everything went well at first, and I let Kolt stay at my place until Bob was able to nab an apartment. First thing we did was take Kolt to local gun shows and to my local FFL/gunsmith to hang out. I fed him and provided for him as best I could. However, Bob had a work emergency and has to temporarily go out of state. Now Im stuck with a poor kid with nowhere to go. I work two full time jobs (80-90+ hours a week) but I did the best I could for Kolt. I encouraged and helped him when I could to land him jobs at nearby businesses and was ecstatic when Academy Sports decided to hire him (He starts this Monday, by the way). He also landed part time jobs at Subway and Pizza Hut. Im going to make this kid WORK WORK WORK! Everything was going great and JUST as I was about to add him to my lease and upgrade to a 2 bedroom (I was hesitant to do so until Kolt had found a job), I got a notice on my door. It read that I had violated the terms of my lease by having an unauthorized occupant and that I had to go in person ASAP to talk to the landlord. Well, I work from 7am until midnight, sometimes a bit past midnight DAILY so its impossible to meet the landlord in person. I gave them a call and turns out, my unauthorized guest had been accused (via anonymous letter, of all things) of raping my three female upstairs neighbors at gunpoint with MY rifle. Of course Kolt didnt do any of these things and I tried to reason with the landlord (since I have a law enforcement background and am rather well versed in Texas laws) but the landlord wouldnt listen. Without due process or the ability to face his accusers, Kolt had been banned from the apartment complex property and if he were to be spotted on the premises again, they would evict me from my home. I tried everything I could. I asked her (the landlord), why they (the three alleged rape and assault victims) hadnt contacted the police to report these serious allegations? Why did they go to the landlord first instead of police? The landlord didnt want to hear any of it. She refused to talk further on the topic or even to meet Kolt and hear his side of the story. She even threatened that the police would supposedly confiscate my guns, and I politely reminded her that I know the law and thats not how things work. There has to be due process and people are innocent until proven guilty. There has to be evidence of a crime for there to be conviction, etc etc yada yada yada. The landlord stuck to her ground and refused to budge or listen to reason (let alone do BASIC investigating). I even went as far as to ask if someone in the complex accused me of raping them, would I receive this same treatment and the landlord bluntly said yes. ...what a lovely country we live in, aint it? So, as a matter of self-preservation (cant help others much if Im homeless myself, right?) I rushed Kolt from the property. Ive been leaving my car parked across the street of my apartment complex at the gym I go to for Kolt to sleep in overnight. Every morning at 6:30 am, I walk to the gym from my apartment and use my gym guestpass to let Kolt in so he can shower. I then take him to breakfast, and then drop him off at Barnes & Nobles so he can hang out there all day while I work at my first job. Sometimes I drop him off some lunch and dinner when I can, and when I cant I hand him whatever money I have in my pockets. This has been our daily routine for some time. Weve tried calling local shelters but most of them are full. Ive tried calling all my friends and begging them to give Kolt a place to sleep but so far, no luck. Ive had to dig deep into my own personal finances (which now Im late on several bills) and am now currently selling some of my own personal property to make a miracle happen. If all goes well, I can get this kid enough money for first months rent + deposit at his own place and enough to buy him a van or something. He starts working soon so hopefully if we hold out long enough, this kid will be able to sustain himself. Ive started getting pretty severe stress migraines and Im not even sure how Im going to make ends meet for myself. All I know is, that Id rather be homeless and broke myself than see my good friend die. If you are religious, pray for us. We definitely need some sort of miracle to make it this month. ~[Rummy] P.S. We recently confronted Kolts accusers and in text have them admitting they lied and made it all up, but they refuse to make things right so I can take Kolt into my apartment. So the saga continues, and this kids homeless and doing his best to make it until his first few work checks come through.
