This just in from THE GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE DEPARTMENT. Elizabeth Groff’s 12-year-old daughter shot this of her older brother. Extraordinary. Here’s how extraordinary: In 1986 “200 of the worlds greatest photojournalists” photographed America and came up with around 700,000 pictures. When they boiled it down to one photograph for the cover, they finally had to Photoshop horses and trees and moons around to get an adequate vertical image to accommodate the shape. 200 of the worlds greatest photojournalists had failed to shoot a decent vertical for the cover. (It was a big stinky controversy at the time.) Too bad Elizabeth’s 12-year-old daughter wasn’t one of the 200 photographers working on that project. Maybe she could have got them out of a jam. Anyway, I’m thinking that if 200 of the worlds greatest photojournalists come up with this picture for a cover and then decades later a 12-year-old girl comes up with her version of the same picture she must be doing something right.
