This little guy was recently transferred in from another shelter. He was surrendered by woman who said that she bought it on the street in Chinatown in Chicago and had no idea what to do with it now. Sadly, this is a story that we hear all too often. These turtles are often purchased by individuals who have no knowledge of their care or how big they are going to get. Sure, hes cute and small now, but red eared sliders can grow to the size of a dinner plate and need a large fresh water environment to thrive. They also have the potential to live up to 30 years. Please do your research when thinking about buying a water turtle or any other reptile pet and know what you are getting yourself into.
