This may be cruel and it is late...but even so, this post will ruffle someones feathers... Network news tonite led with the ceremonial procession of the flag-draped coffin of a fallen LA police officer as it passed thru ranks of saluting fellow police and fireman. This public servant died today on duty. He was crushed by a cement truck. I dont mean to trivialize his death by writing about this... This public servant died as a consequence of his profession. Yet his passing received honor and pomp far exceeding the circumstances of this death. .. I couldnt help wondering Why Such Regard - rarely accorded to returning soldiers having died under circumstances far more challenging - was rendered to This victim... just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Shit happens. To good people. On duty. Shit happens. Its tough to be ANYone in the service of your country, nowadays. And I think that youd better be clear about your commitment to Whatever you are committed to...cause shit WILL happen ;) I just wish that such regard was extended to troops having died as a consequence of their service....as well as to casualties that happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. You know what? It doesnt matter. Dead is dead. Our considerations are rubbish. ;)
