This may be one of the less-advertised side effects of knowing a lot of writers. The more of them you meet, the more you realise that they are, in fact, people. The ones who had something useful or important to say had it all along, well before they were published. The one who didnt - well, their stuff didnt improve just because it was published. Some whove got something to say will never find a publisher because their inconvenient truths arent marketable. Some have only ever published because their daddy knows someone, or because theyre really good at kissing ass. Just because something is published, it dont make it truth or fact, boys and girls. I keep getting in conversations where one party will throw book after book after book instead of forming responses to an issue. Aside from the fact that my Amazon wish list is going to send me bankrupt without any help from anyone, what is this? A sign of laziness (cant be bothered to type up a counter-argument, heres a link) or an appeal to authority?
