This may be the wrong forum to express angst, but for now, this is the quickest and most widely shared venue for my rant. This week, as short as it is, and at a time when we are celebrating our declaration of independence, I have found several more violations of personal freedom that I wish to share. While picking up a load of soap from a very large private chemical company in Louisiana, for delivery to a large corporate enterprise in St. Louis, and due to the meddling of a government agency, ie the U.S. Coast Guard, I was informed that as a matter of personal safety I would be required to shave the tails of my mustache off in order to be granted access to the facility. My assumption for this rule was that, if the need arose to wear a respirator, I would get a more secure seal around my face without the presence of facial hair. So reluctantly and with much anxiety I chose to not violate Coast Guard regulations and comply. But what I later realized is that personal safety was not the driving force for the rule. This became apparent to me when I realized after I obtained the load of soap on my trailer, another rule that was blatantly overlooked and never brought to my attention, was I was also supposed to wear fire resistant clothing while inside the gate and on the property. I did not have available to me, nor was I offered any clothing and I still was allowed to load this soap product and transport the product to St. Louis. The load was not a hazardous material and not regulated. But I still was forced to shave off part of my mustache. Yes I do feel that our government is taking charge of too much of our lives these days. But my resentment, I find, is building because while not listening to the desires of the voting public, government is taking away or trying to take away our constitutional rights one at a time, very discreetly, in hopes that we wont notice soon enough, before it is too late. What effects will that type of infuence have on our population and what impact will this influence have on business and our economy, that is already to the point that most working class people already are seeing the crunch on family finances. Its obvious to me that personal safety was not the important driving force requiring me to shave. I can only assume that identification and muscle flexing, in an attempt to prepare me to further comply with future rules and laws and regulations that come down the road. We are being led by the hand that wants to feed us, instead of that same hand watching our backs. Good luck Americans with free survival in the future. Of course I am sure there will be a government watch list with my name on it now.
