This may seem like an ordinary video, but to those of us at PAWS, this represents a true miracle. Celia is the golden mix with the floral collar. She came to PAWS almost a year ago to the day thanks to the unbelievable compassion of PAWS supporter Bruce Browning. Bruce had watched Celia wander around his neighborhood for over year. He could not stand to watch her become pregnant again as the cycle of overpopulation continue. He made the decision to humanely trap her. Once trapped, It broke Bruces heart to watch the way Celia behaved around people. She would cower and convulse and the mere sight of a human being. Bruce made it his mission to find someone who would take Celia in and work with her. He sent emails to multiple local rescues asking for help. No rescues felt comfortable taking in a dog with such debilitating fear and timid nature. Some rescues even advocated releasing Celia back to the streets as it was all she had ever known. Bruce stuck with it and continued to email as he paid to keep Celia boarded and safe. His email finally came to us at PAWS New England and we were so touched by Celias story. Our rescue group has always had a weak spot for dogs like Celia who need the time, patience, and expertise and a group who believes that they will recover with the right resources. Thanks to PAWS foster Mom Amy Cardello and the incredible Judy Basteri and staff at Pet Companions, Bed & Biscuit- Celia was given the love, the medication, and the environment she needed to overcome her extreme fear and shyness around people. When we watched this video of her actually approaching a person- we couldnt help the happy tears that followed. So many people would have long given up on this dog. A year is a long time to wait for this seemingly mundane action. But, for Celia, that tail wag took months and month of hard work. It is amazing thing to watch this beautiful girl fight back from the grips of trauma to a place of sheer happiness. Congratulations Celia- we are so proud of you. And Bruce, Amy, and Judy- you are heroes. Thank you for all you do to make happy endings like this possible!
