This meeting was held on 15th May 2014 CONDOLENCE MEETING FOR MUKUL SINHA Report Time: 4:00 to 6:00 Venue: Vinobha Bhave Gyan Mandir,Jaipur A self effacing man who worked tirelessly for changing perception and ideas, who stood for the very symbol of democracy, the quality of public discourse and the effective reach of it in collective decision making was paid tributes in the way which was identical to the life he lived and values that he practiced throughout. The meeting was progressive, as it was a platform where the present political scenario was discussed at length by all the members present including the PUCL interns. This meeting was the confluence of various thought patterns and was a concentric platform where upon the young minds could interact with senior members of civil society. The meeting started with a fine piece of memoir written by Mr. Zaheer Jaan Mohammed, and read by Kavita Shrivastav, explaining to us through incidents of the life of the man who always struggled for the cause of voiceless and oppressed. It was righteously decided that the best way to pay tribute to the soul of this departed man was to further ideas through a discourse by building up a culture that promoted questions and deliberations. The successive speaker Mr. Prem Kishan ji started his speech by remembering his collective experiences with Mukul Sinha, and also comparing that they two have had very similar lives and the only difference between the two was that the late Mukul Sinha ji till his death had complete faith on judiciary while on the other hand Prem Kishan ji has lost his faith and then he very aptly moved on towards giving us a blue print to achieve the unfinished dreams of Late Mukul Sinha. There were many other noted speakers and acquaintances of Mukul Sinha namely Mr. Harkesh, Mr. Rasheed, Mrs. Mamta, Mrs. Lata, Mr. Ramesh, Mr. Nissar and others who spoke about the meteoric rise of right wing FASCIST forces under Narendra Modi and resurrection of fake nationalism through the ranks of VHP. Other substantial points raised by the speakers were related to the feasibility of neo liberal model that Modi represents. The meeting was highly informative and thoroughly interactive as the PUCL interns had various doubts and questions related to the issue at hand. Questions like :- 1. Why not Modi ? (Asked by Mayank) 2. Why being Judgmental without giving him a fair run? 3. How can we say that he is a FASCIST? (Asked by Devashish) 4.How can we accuse him of 2002 Godhra riots when supreme court has given him a clean chit? 5. If he is an authoritative dictator or a fascist then what makes people elect him thrice?( Asked by Sushant) 6. What are the other alternatives available if not the conventional parties?(asked by satyajeet) 7. Isn’t labeling Modi a would be dictator once he gets elected is a mindless assertion in a vibrant and an accountable democracy like India?( Asked by Siddharth) Above mentioned questions evoked a sense of enquiry and there was a healthy discussion among the interns and the senior members present. Every member tried their best to answer the questions put forth by the interns, by quoting various incidents. Be it the clean chit of Narendra Modi and media publicized Modi hype and the stark reality of JUHUPURA and ghettoisation of Muslims. The discussion concluded with Kavita Shrivastav’s views on these issues on which she urged the youth to be informed, aware for taking correct decisions in the best interest of the individual and the collective. And in the end two minutes silence was observed so that the departed soul may rest in peace. The meeting was a great success in brain storming the minds of the interns but the real fruits of the toil can only be reaped if the participants come out with better and more creative ideas to bring about a substantial change in the society.
