Enjoy your Saturday ~ "Identification The Dog Days of Summer have blossomed in the Northern Hemisphere and many of us take time out from our busy lives and routines to enjoy a vacation of simple pleasures, the wonders of nature, or joyful connections with family and friends. Summer holidays can offer the joy of timeless ease spent sitting on a porch listening to the morning birds sing, or in playful abandon with children, walking in a forest or floating on a lake while taking in all the natural beauty. Each of these pleasures comes through simply being present, with the senses awakened, while free from the usual distractions of our work-a-day lives that can include the identification with habitual stories or scripts about ourselves and the world that we take to be true. The freedom and spaciousness of a holiday setting can offer more time to notice what otherwise may not be noticed. This summer, why not set an intention to take a vacation from “identification”? Or more truly, to be mindful of how identification occurs spontaneously and is simply a functioning of the mind. It happens without our doing. You might notice particular beliefs that seem to get a lot of “air time” such as “I don’t have enough time” or “I only have value when I am busy” or perhaps a judgment about someone close to you. Identification with these beliefs can be a source of great stress or suffering in our lives. Once we notice these identifications, we can inquire as to their validity by looking at the evidence and, as in iRest, see how the opposite can also be as or more true. But even more importantly, we can use the movements of identification to point us back to our home ground as undisturbed stillness, silence and freedom and then abide as this. In this way, we find the ultimate vacation, without ever having to go anywhere or do anything!...a “staycation”, if you will May your summer be filled with the blessings of insight and peace, as you abide in your true holiday home.
