This morning I hit the road at 5:30am with a destination of Queens, NY. What I encountered when I arrived was one of the largest gatherings of police officers and other Public Safety personnel from all across the United States and Canada. I wasnt sure what role I was going to play, whether photojournalist or Public Safety Officer. I decided that it was only right to show respect to NYPD Detective First Grade Rafael Ramos and donned my Class A BIDMC Public Safety uniform. However, I also felt an event of this magnitude should be documented. As the hearse carrying Detective Ramos passed followed by the limousines carrying his family, I put the camera down and offered my final salute along with more than 20,000 others.
