This morning I stopped off at the Roaring Camp Railroad to check - TopicsExpress

This morning I stopped off at the Roaring Camp Railroad to check out their narrow gauge line. I ended up taking trips through the hills on both their Diesel and Steam locomotives. Its a cool place that Ill bet is packed during the summer tourist summer season. The mountainous trips were really cool as the redwoods are so tall that in some spots it blocked out the sun and made taking photos really difficult in some areas. Both locomotives are antiques, but it was really cool to step back into yesteryear they chugged through the hills to the top of the mountain. Yes, I made the trip twice. Once with the Diesel and a second time with the stream. They were screw type, not the 6-8 wheeler type that all of us are use to seeing in western movies. These babies were built to pull with muscle up steep grades. Going over the wooden trestles were cool. Too bad that fire damaged the one and they didnt rebuild it as it cuts across a small gorge that is about 130 feet high and 100 feet wide. The Diesel stank a bit, but the steam one was really cool to watch and listen too as the oil burner belched smoke and the boiler puffed out white steam as we moved along the tracks. There is some really beautiful scenery in that area and some of the trees that we saw were over 2,100 years old. Some of the trees had trunks that looked as wide as the rail cars that we were riding in. I also had another caricature done while I was there. Im really glad to that I was able to add this place to my list for this weekend.
